Facial recognition technology has the potential to intensify the existing inequalities and daily life challenges that members of the LGBTQ+ community face daily. Facial recognition uses biometric data which has become an increasingly popular form of authentication in today’s world, where hackers have the ability to view intimate information collected by the facial recognition software. They use this to target members of LGBTQ+ community, leaving them more susceptible to discrimination, harassment, and harm. Although facial recognition comes with many pros, it is important to acknowledge its negative implications and fight for necessary protections.
